This artwork is a striking tribute to Palestine, intricately shaped in the form of its geographic outline using tatreez, the centuries-old Palestinian embroidery tradition. Each section of the map features traditional cross-stitch motifs passed down through generations of women, with patterns representing specific villages, seasons, olive branches, cypress trees, and elements of daily life.
The central dome alludes to Jerusalem, while floral patterns evoke fertility, resilience, and the deep bond between land and identity. Framed by an ornate border of rose-like motifs, the piece serves not only as a visual homage to cultural heritage, but as a quiet act of resistance — preserving history in thread and symbol.
Woven Homeland is both art and archive: a piece that tells a story of roots, memory, and the enduring spirit of the Palestinian people.
